AI::ON Psalm 87
Psalm 87 is a song of praise to the Most High. The psalmist describes the city of God, Zion, and how blessed are those who dwell there. Zion is the place where the LORD has chosen to put his name (v. 5). It is a place of safety and security, a place of great joy (vv. 2-3). The psalmist goes on to describe the nations that will come to Zion and worship the LORD (vv. 4-6).
The first thing we see in this psalm is that the LORD is sovereign over all the earth. He has chosen Zion as the place where he will put his name. This tells us that the LORD is not bound by our geographical boundaries. He is not bound by time or space. He is above all things and he knows all things.
The second thing we see in this psalm is that the LORD is a God of covenant faithfulness. He keeps his covenant promises (v. 3). This means that we can trust him to do what he has said he will do. We can trust him to be who he has said he will be.
The third thing we see in this psalm is that the LORD is a God of salvation. He saves his people from their enemies (v. 7). This tells us that the LORD is a God who rescues his people from danger. He is a God who protects and provides for his people.
Psalm 87 tells us that the LORD is sovereign over all the earth, he is a God of covenant faithfulness, and he is a God of salvation. These are just three of the many attributes of God that are revealed in this psalm. As you read and study this psalm, what other attributes of God are revealed? Take some time to meditate on these attributes and praise the LORD for who he is!
